ABOUT THE SOCIETY

The Liverpool Medical Students’ Society (LMSS) is the oldest and largest medical society in the whole of the UK with over 1000 active members. The LMSS welcomes medical students and doctors, with over 15,000 former members as part of our Alumni Network.

The society is dedicated to the promotion of the academic, charitable, social, sporting, creative, professional and developmental wellbeing of its members, aiming to maximise the experience of student-life and help students form friendships that will last for a lifetime.

Founded in 1874 as a medical debating society, the LMSS has developed over the years to keep up with the demands of modern society, finally becoming an independent Registered Charity in 2016 (No. 1167764).

SUPPORTED CHARITIES

KIND & Wirral Mind

The LMSS supports 2 local charities each year, in the last 4 years alone raising in excess of £100,000 for our chosen charities. This year, the LMSS is supporting KIND and Wirral Mind, with recent past charities including Claire House Children’s Hospice, WaterAid, Wirral Heartbeat and The Whitechapel Centre.

The LMSS is headed by 3 student officers; the President, Secretary and Treasurer, with an elected committee of students to help run the society and all of our wonderful events. The Society is governed by a board of 14 trustees made up of former members, local doctors and experts in medicine and law.
