------ The LMSS has been reinstated with ------
the university of liverpool

"The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, within the University of Liverpool announced that a new ‘Association of Clinical Student Societies’ is being established to provide joint governance of the Dental and Veterinary Student Societies alongside the LMSS, within the Faculty.

LMSS has a great history and seeks to continue to be relevant in today’s age of inclusivity and an increasingly precarious environment nationwide, for the reputation of the profession. To support this, the Office Bearers of the Society have worked with the School to update its constitution and ethos.

Following the above, the Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Hazel Scott, was pleased to attend the LMSS Annual Ball last Saturday to celebrate the news that the University had agreed to re-instate the Society, with immediate effect. The School is delighted at the beginning of this new chapter. We look forward to working collaboratively with all the Societies affiliated to the School, providing excellence in medical education and a School of which we can be very proud."

About the Society

The Liverpool Medical Students’ Society (LMSS) is the oldest and largest medical society in the whole of the UK with over 1000 active members. The LMSS welcomes medical students and doctors, with over 15,000 former members as part of our Alumni Network.

The society is dedicated to the promotion of the academic, charitable, social, sporting, creative, professional and developmental wellbeing of its members, aiming to maximise the experience of student-life and help students form friendships that will last for a lifetime.

Founded in 1874 as a medical debating society, the LMSS has developed over the years to keep up with the demands of modern society, finally becoming an independent registered charity in 2016 (no. 1167764).
The LMSS supports 2 local charities each year, in the last 4 years alone raising in excess of £100,000 for our chosen charities. This year, the LMSS is supporting Claire House Children's Hospice and Wirral Heartbeat, with recent past charities including WaterAid and The Whitechapel Centre.

The LMSS is headed by 3 student officers; the President, Secretary and Treasurer, with an elected committee of students to help run the society and all of our wonderful events. The Society is governed by a board of 14 trustees made up of former members, local doctors and experts in medicine and law.

President - Jack Sutton

Hi my name’s Jack and I have the absolute pleasure of being this year’s LMSS President 2018-19. The LMSS is an incredibly active and diverse society and with a wide range of activities on offer there really is something for everyone be it sports, socials, fundraising or academic events.

As president of the LMSS it is my job to make sure that everything runs smoothly throughout this year and that everyone of its members feels included and represented. I’ll be around at all our events this year so if it’s help or just a friendly chat feel free free to come say hi!
