Rugby - LMSRFC

The LMSRFC. 3 times NAMS plate finalists in the last 4 years, twice champions. Our club competes in the NAMS cup with other Medical School rugby teams with much recent success. We play most of our rugby in regular Saturday matches against local men's teams, with our training sessions being on Wednesday evenings.
Our activity as a club does not just stop on the rugby field, having frequent post-match socials throughout the year. The final thing to say is there is a great teaching ethos within our club, with older years always willing to teach the lower years, allowing everyone to have a smooth run through the 5 years of medical school.
We would like to encourage any level of rugby to join, from those who have played all their lives to those who've never held an egg-shaped ball.

Netball

Liverpool Medics Netball Club is a big club made up of girls from all years of the medical school. We have 4 teams that play in competitive weekly matches, and we also have players that just come to training for some fun and social netball playing! Last year we reached one of our highest member totals ever, with around 100 players joining the club at the start of the year, and we can’t wait to see lots of new and returning faces this year.
We train once a week on Smithdown road, and our 4 teams play one match a week in their leagues. Not only are our training sessions fun ways to get to know other Medics in your own year and others, we also have loads of socials throughout the year, including Freshers’ Welcome Party, Christmas dinner, AGM, and an annual tour, which are always amazing experiences and a great way to get to know your teammates better.
You don’t need to have any experience of netball to come along - whether you’ve never played, or haven’t thrown a ball since year 10, or if you’ve been a county netballer, we’d love to see you, and we hope everyone is as inspired as we are by the recent Netball World Cup in Liverpool this summer!

Hockey - LMSHC

Liverpool Medical School Hockey Club, the largest club of the medical school and by far the best. We welcome everyone from absolute beginners to any of the international professionals amongst you, if you haven’t played before neither had I! We have hockey sticks available for those of you who don’t have their own or didn’t bring it to uni too. We have a great group of members from all year groups, it’s an excellent opportunity for you to mix with older year groups and make some of friends you’ll have for the rest of medical school! We have three teams and all of them are mixed sex.
We play in the university campus league and against other medical schools in the regional NAMS tournament. Throughout the year we go for BBQ’s (when it’s sunny), fancy dress and other socials. We aim to provide both sport and socialising so you can keep healthy and happy!
We train on Wednesdays at 6 PM either at Archbishop School or Wyncote Sports Ground.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask us when you see us at the Fresher’s Fair!

Men's Football - LMSFC

The LMSFC is one of the biggest clubs within the LMSS, in which we have three 11-a-side teams and a 6-a-side team playing regular games throughout the year in the university campus league. Every year we compete in the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) football tournament against other medical schools across the country. Whether you are playing competitively or just want a kick about with some mates, we encourage everyone to come down to training every Tuesday 8-9:30pm @ Wyncote. It is a great opportunity to improve your footballing ability as well as meeting people from every year at training and at our socials. We have some great socials planned this year so get stuck in and see you in the new year!!

Tennis

Hey everyone! I’m Freya, Club Captain of the Medics’ Tennis Team.
If you’re interested in playing tennis this year then we’d love to have you! We welcome any player from beginner to performance. Even if you’ve never played before, don’t be worried about giving it a go. It’s a great club that’s excited to see some fresh faces and get some good socials going this year!
We play once a week on a Monday at the Liverpool Tennis Centre in Wavertree and are hoping to get more matches going this year for those interested in that. Looking forward to this new year with you all!

Squash

‘Worlds healthiest sport’ - Forbes
Why squash? Well the question should be why not? It’s a sport which brings many different skills and combines them in one. Agility, cardiovascular fitness and spacial awareness are a few of many qualities you will improve and develop whilst playing. At Liverpool we have four recently refurbished courts within the gymnasium itself and these are available to book from 7am-10pm 7 days a week. As a club we train on a Tuesday evening for an hour and a half and usually go for a drink afterwards, whether that be alcoholic or not is your choice! For those who like competition we usually set up a ladder throughout the year for you to challenge students in different years, in November time there is a NAMS tournament which involves medical schools from around the country competing for the trophy. And of course not to forget, we have our own club socials which are always a great way to meet new people whilst enjoying your favourite curry.
All in all, whether you have played or you haven’t, give it a go, we are all very approachable and friendly people and are more than happy to help you improve not only your squash capabilities but with academia too. Joe Clarkson Club captain 2019/20 Intercalating medic Email: jmclarkson22@yahoo.com
